Hey Wifa.

It was nice to see you before bed. You are so beautiful, I can hardly stand it. When you get home I am going to grab you and never let go. To feel your warmth will be like the sun melting the snow.

My day was okay. I had a hard time getting up, but I managed ;) I spent the first hour of the day in the studio sanding bondo.

Work was work. Not much to speak of, as usual. I love seeing you while I am there.

When I got home I fed the dogs and took them for a walk. It was an active night in the hood. We walked down by Devon and Daniel's. We saw their puppies from the sidewalk. Their new dog is pretty. They make quite the pair. We walked west from there and circled back to the path toward the park. The playground next to the path was all tagged up. The graffiti looks so "nice." The line quality and lettering are definitely cultivated skills. I liked the way it looked, so I snapped a couple of pictures. When I was done we continued walking and on the other side of the play ground there were four gangsters sitting on the park bench.  I got nervous about taking the pictures as we walked by the hoods. When we got to Barnum Park we walked toward the pond and discovered a whole slew of people fishing. I guess it is a fishing pond now. I dunno if people are eating the fish they catch, but I did see about three people catching fish. They must have stocked the pond before the grand opening. After that, we walked up the hill. At the top of the hill, the picnic tables were taken by a party. It seemed innocent, but there was a lot of red clothing. All the activity reminded me of seeing the shooting and we quickened our pace.

Once we got home I headed for the studio and worked until 11:30. It was a productive night and I feel comfortable about working in the studio tomorrow.

I really like the title you suggested for the show. Ouoia. It is a nice looking word and its definition is like my sentiment for the work. The Aristotelian definition of techne is interesting. I like and dislike the idea of completing what nature cannot. I don't like the exclusion from nature, but I get the point. I wish I were sitting next to you during your classes. I can't wait to hear more about them, and I look forward to more Wolfie quotes.

Well Wifa, I am spent. I am going to dream of holding to you. Please think of me while I am asleep and be with me in my dreams. I miss you so much. One more day down.

I lova you wife! Goodnight.

  1. Hi Baby,

Thanks for the sweet blog post… every time I read your writing it make me feel both excited to hear about your day and sad to be without you. I guess this is the definition of bitter sweet. At least we can video chat… that makes it bearable. I am really lucky that Poppy’s New Yorker attitude got the wireless Internet fixed. I feel passive next to her.

I can hardly wait to be next to you, to be able to hold you and kiss you all over. I need to be patient… but it is not easy, I guess I have no choice but to wait to be with you.

Anselmo wrote me back today. I guess I will have a final confirmation on the Italian project in July, so that’s good news. He also shared with me that he and Daria chose to name their baby Edoardo… I think Daria will have the baby in a few months.

Today’s morning class with Werner Hamacher was good, yesterday was better. We focused on man’s inclination to imitation (mimesis in Aristotle’s words). I guess according to Aristotelian ethics, this is an instinct implanted in us from childhood. Professor Hamacher focused on a few interesting examples, the first was a painting of a dead body and the second was a photograph of a chair. He said both are imitations… the imitations do not function in their physical use in the real world. You cannot sit on the chair and you cannot experience real death. He said that we get pleasure from imitation that we cannot get from the real thing… pleasure in the relation to the real. He said that for humans it is essential to have the need to go past the real, past the physical as a condition for learning and communicating. The decisive factor in an imitation is the creating of a new reality (interpretation) that does not have pragmatic ends. We are experiencing something that we cannot experience in any other way (a new state of being). The big questions in today’s class that were unanswered were:

  2. What do we need to know? And why do we need to know?

Lunch was good. I had some sort of tofu think with red curry. I sat with my professor and Poppy.

The afternoon class with Wolfgang was kind of a drag. We had a reading by Schopenhauer on Suffering and each of us in the class (there are 6 of us) we had to read a text and then pick out a sentence to highlight. Each person read their sentence and then we argued about as pro and con. The class kind of drug on. I wrote down a few quotes from the gang of wolves:

“Picture the pope shitting and you see that he is two different things, one of which is an animal.”

“To shame somebody is one of the most powerful things you can do.”

That’s about all I’ve got right now. My brain is soup after tonight’s lecture and all I want to do is video chat with you. I miss you and I hope you had a good day off.

    Love, love, love, forever.
